I just wanted to write to tell you that "Eddie Johnson's Jumpshot & Offensive Skills" DVD is, by far, the best video/DVD I have seen when it comes to helping young players understand the fundamentals of shooting. Eddie Johnson breaks down the shooting process into understandable segments, giving points on what to do at each step. In addition, he outlines drills and techniques to improve your jump shot. The best point of this DVD is that Eddie Johnson comes from the point of view of a player, giving the student tips on how to get open and take that winning shot. Eddie Johnson is a natural teacher. My son and daughter enjoyed the video and have been using the techniques. Although we have had the video for a short period of time, I have seen a marked improvement in their shooting form and the video reinforces many of the same drills and techniques I have been teaching them. My son is 5 and has been playing organized basketball at the YMCA since he was 3. While we have always stressed fundamentals, its very helpful to have a video presentation to back up what I have been telling him. Seeing the skills on TV helps reinforce the on-court learning. The DVD really put things in perspective. The hand position and follow through he thought he was doing was corrected through the visualization. Also, the free throw section reinforced that and the offensive skills were beneficial in learning to create space for the shot. He has begun to recognize what moves someone will try against him and that was a bonus. Shots created off of forced turnovers, may be something to add to the second one.
